Why Go Green?
The world has a fixed amount of natural resources, some of which are depleted. According to the US Census Bureau, the world's population reached 1 billion in 1800, 2 billion by 1922, and over 6 billion by 2000. As the population greatly strains our finite resources, we must preserve clean air, water, fuel sources, and soil like we save for college.
Some of the greatest threats to our resources are from things we throw away every day: household batteries & electronics leak into groundwater & pollute the soil our food grows in, cannot be removed from our drinking water supply and cause cancer in the fish we eat.
Did you know:
1) For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved?
7000 gallons of water, 380 gallons of oil and enough energy to power a house for 6 months?
2) You can run a TV for 6 hours on the amount of electricity saved by recycling one aluminum can!
3) By recycling just one glass bottle, you can save enough electricity to power a 100 watt bulb for 4 hours.
4) For every ink cartridge that is recycled, 2.5 lbs of petroleum products are kept out of our rivers & oceans.
5) At the rate we are currently throwing things away, the US needs about 500 new landfills a year. If the population rises as projected, we will need closer to 750 new landfills per year.
We can't afford to not think of future generations. Please support green, local, and ethical businesses now- that means don't shop at Walmart & other huge chains! Go green so we can have cleaner air, water, peace & abundance for all beings!
