Suze Gilbert
Suze discovered yoga on April 5, 1975. It was an ‘ah ha’ moment, a homecoming. She intuitively knew yoga to be the vital and life-affirming practice that would become her dedicated spiritual path. Suze doesn’t believe a day has gone by since that she hasn’t practiced some aspect of yoga.
She was homeschooled for the first few years and then entered into more formal training through classes and workshops. Her book learning was classic yoga, built on the traditional teachings of Patanjali and grounded into the full experience of yoga that goes beyond asana.
When it was time to do a teacher training, Suze chose Ananda Yoga. AY is steeped in the Raja yoga tradition with Hatha yoga as a one practice on the path to joy and higher awareness. She has a strong foundation in Iyengar yoga and has taken additional training in Sivananda yoga, Viniyoga, Kripalu yoga, Vinyasa and Astanga yoga, Yin yoga, Restorative yoga, Pranayama, and Yoga Meditation and Philosophy.
Her teaching style is eclectic and has been greatly influenced by her many years as a massage and energetic bodywork practitioner.
Suze has been teaching for over 20 years. Her classes include special needs adults and seniors, and children, as well as a general adult population. She develops individual and corporate stress management programs with yoga as a cornerstone. Her teaching has taken her into private homes, yoga studios, schools and community centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, assisted living and nursing homes, gyms, and corporate conference rooms. Along the way, she co-founded a mixed movement studio and served as the primary yoga teacher for 2 years.
From New York to Seattle to Connecticut to San Diego, yoga has been the foundation and guiding principles of Suze’s life. To share this love and passion became a calling. She knows it is an honor to be part of someone’s journey towards self-awareness and authenticity and feels blessed when she is entrusted as a helpmate in that process.
