Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is an excellent way for every person to develop a deeper awareness of their own body. Hatha Yoga is an umbrella term for all types of yoga that involve movement.

When most people think of yoga , they think of it as practicing asana, or postures that can make one look like a pretzel. That can be true in some classes, and not in others.

Yoga was created as preparation for meditation, and in some parts of the world, to practice yoga means that you practice meditation. Here in the West, it mostly means getting a workout. Stretching & strengthening is a great way tobalance the body reduce pain.

  • Stretching helps develop and maintain pliability of the tissues.
  • Movement enhances range of motion & facilitates strength.
  • Internal acupressure created by twists & inversins relieves congestion in the organs & stimulates the glands.
  • Yoga can help you lose weight and maintain a youthful appearance.

When the body is comfortable, free of pain and relaxed, the techniques of yoga serve to reawaken our connection to our purpose here on this earth.

As you might have experienced, it can be difficult to sit still to meditate. The mind is chaotic, always planning, worrying, anxious. So ancient yogis developed ways to purify the body in preparation for meditation.

The elements of the world converge in our body, and are always evolving. Ayurveda, which literally means the science of life, reflects an intricate, but deep connection between body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga, and developed alongside it over 5000 years ago. It is the lifestyle of diet, exercise, and discipline. The physical & mental diseases which people suffer from are nothing but a disharmony in our energetic system. While Western medicine seeks to identify an external pathogen as the basis of diagnosis for most imbalances/ dis- ease, Ayurveda classifies all the factors in our lives, such as foods, emotions, climates, lifestyle and psychology to determine the whole person's imbalance and then treatment.
