Finally, we are becoming aware of the impact
we humans have on this earth! Even Oprah did
a huge Earth Day Special, so of course more than
half of America may start to care! Check out
this link if you'd like to find out some ways you
can
go green!For those of you
who didn't know, Yoganic is San Diego's '
Green Yoga
Studio.' This means we use all
organic cleaning products, we use only recycled TP
and provide hemp towels (which are washed every
couple days) to dry your hands. Rather than
using disposable cups for water, we offer glass
cups which we wash. We carry only organic,
recycled, recyclable, sustainably made/ harvested
&/ or fair trade items for sale to expose
people to a different kind of product than you
might see at Walmart- (not that any of you shop
there.)
Because we get most of our
goods in stores as opposed to growing, sewing,
etc, we don't see the whole production line: where
things come from, nor do we see where they go to
when we're done with them.
We encourage
you to use one of our biggest tools: our consumer
power to support businesses whose business model
& ethics match yours.
Here are
some things to consider when making a
purchase:
-Effect of shipping in
pollution
-Visualize the packaging of goods in
the dump
-If you don't see the word
organic
on it, it is probably full of pesticides & has
been genetically altered.
-If you don't see the
term
sweatshop
free or
fair
trade, it was probably made in a
sweatshop,especially clothes.
Patanjali
describes the yama, or restraint,
Ahimsa
in the 8 Limbs of yoga, as
non
violence. Desikachar goes further to
define
himsa,
which means
injustice
or cruelty. He states that ahimsa is
not just lack of cruelty, but a
kindness,
friendliness & thoughtful consideration of
other beings.
Gandhi was a perfect
example of that.
We can all be the
change we want to see in the world when we
remember the effect of one little purchase on the
people from the beginning of the production line
all the way to our children.
Make one
change today! It all adds up.
Thank you
for the work you do in the
world!
Namaste,
Skyler
