Hello!
As the anniversary of the Iraq war approaches, so
many of our lives have been touched by it, and many of
us wonder how we, individually, can make a
difference. One branch of yoga that has made a big
impact in my life has been seva or selfless
service. My teacher told me that the best antidote
to suffering is seva.
I invite you to
spend some time serving in a way that will benefit a
group of people who are the most invisible in our
society: San Diego's homeless, many of which are
veterans. Donating your time is so rewarding, to
make food & hand it to someone who's hungry.
If you can't find the time to help us on March
17, we are accepting donations of organic food, in
particular bread, peanut butter & jelly, bananas,
other fruit, bottled water and toiletries. As
Julia Butterfly Hill so famously put it, One Can Make a
Difference!
March 17: Feed the
homeless. Please call or email for more info,
where to meet, &/or what you can
donate. 619.294.7792
**If
you have seen the flier, we had RaRa Avis scheduled to
DJ some downtempo music for yoga & dancing that
evening. Unfortunately, he has broken his finger,
so we are rescheduling
for May 10, Thursday night. More info
coming soon on that, but save the date now....

Taoist Yoga
|
|
 by
Joshua Graner Taoist Yoga is a system of
holistic medicine that integrates breathing
(pranayama)and postures (asanas) to decrease
obstructions that exist in the joints, muscle
tissues, vital organs and the mind. The
roots of this practice date back at least 2000
years and were used by the mystic communities of
both India Hatha
Yoga and China Tao Yin for
self-realization, longevity and as
medicine. Taoist Yoga is the combination of
traditional Hatha Yoga techniques using Sri
Krishnamacharya's teachings, and Traditional
Chinese Medical practices such as meridian
stretching, Qi Kung and Tai Qi. (Qi is pronounced
Chi.) The underlying philosophy is that our
physical reality is a dynamic relationship between
two opposing, but complementary forces.
These forces are masculine yang and
feminine yin in
nature. Holistic Physicians have taught that
our physical experience is an interplay or
conversation between these two forces. When
our mind and body are relaxed, the interplay can
take place easily and without resistance.
When the body/ mind develops obstructions, the
interplay loses freedom and spontaneity and
results in mental, physical, and spiritual
difficulties. Freeing the body from
obstructions is called "nourishing one's destiny."
The benefits after practicing Taoist Yoga
consistently for several months
include: 1. Your joints & muscles
will be stronger & more open. 2. Your
mind will be more calm and focused. 3.
Your respiration will be deep and
relaxed. 4. Your digestion will be smooth
and you will start to listen to what your body
needs versus what it craves. 5. We will
practice ahimsa or non-violence as it is applied
to your body in asana, those in your intimate
circles, and the community at large. For
more information you can visit
